Man oh man, does moving suck or what?
Since I've lived in downtown Denver (I moved here in January of 2002, by the way) I have lived in -- no kidding -- seven different places, including my current apartment, which is an average of 1.75 apartments per year. I think this may be due in part to the competitive rent market in downtown Denver, and also because of a certain restlessness that has long resided within my nature (cue "Gypsies Tramps and Thieves" here). Or maybe for some stupid reason I'm just into that kind of misery, who knows! :-S
Anyway, this most recent move is over...may it be the last for a good long time! It was arduous, of course (aren't they all?) but it went relatively smoothly due to the hard work and cooperation of several individuals -- namely Doc Mark, Matthew, myself, Gerard, my co-worker Eric and his friend Carla. Mark in particular deserves some MAD props for busting his tuchas and sacrificing his personal time with his family. From where this man draws his reserves of energy, strength and character is beyond me, but Matt and I are profoundly grateful for his contributions and his family's patience when the work inevitably ran way past schedule. Mark, Matt and I owe you -- and I mean big time!
Since last weekend Matt and I have been working hard to unpack, put away, organize, install, sort and throw away...I would say that we have the apartment about halfway to two-thirds of the way completed. The trick now is to not get everything to the functional level and leave it that way -- both Matt and myself are guilty of the so-called "Trailing Boxes" phenomenon, being where one hefts boxes of old crap from place to place without ever unpacking them or even going through them to see if the contents are valuable enough (sentimentally and/or monetarily) to merit their continued transport and storage. With this in mind,we're making a concerted and mutual effort to go through everything we have, and thus far we've made some good progress (all while avoiding the temptation to go woolgathering amongst old nostalgic photos, tapes and assorted bric-a-brac). I'm hoping that the backs of the next lucky folks to help us move will appreciate our efforts!
Aside from the obvious chores of relocation, I have to say that it's wonderful to be sharing a life with my husband again. I'm grooving on the way we've been pulling together as a team to get the place set up, and I'm enjoying my rediscovery of the simple pleasures of day-to-day married life. Not that doing laundry or taking out the trash is bliss, of course (especially with the lame washers and dryers in our building that leave lint all over everything), but I guess that even such domestic drudgery is helping to make me feel more grounded somehow, as if I'm where I belong. I'm feeling more content and secure than I have in some time, and it's making me (dare I say it) quite happy. Happiness is good. :-)
An i-kiss on the nose to my beloved hubba...more to come soon.

I'm feeling the love, Wendi.
Thanks for the mad props, but the MOTHER mad props go to you two for getting back together and making it work out.
You're too perfect for each other to be separated for long. Here's hoping that the Domestic Groove fits you both for a lifetime to come.
When you do move again, I'll be there to help you out. But let's make that a simple move, shall we? And let's make it a few years down the road. :)
And please, follow your plan of ripping Matt's CDs onto a portable hard drive, because I ain't luggin' those suckahs again!!! :)
Awww, thanks for the MOTHER mad props, Mark...all of the Fosters have been wonderful with their best wishes and encouragement, and I too am feeling the love! :-)
Yeah, the CD ripping project simply must happen; even Matt agrees with me on this, especially after the last move. Also, am I not the digital archivist of the family? It's be a shame not to put those skills to good use, and furthermore our periodic changes of residence are becoming almost like relocating a satellite branch of Twist & Shout. Ack, my back!
Yea! Congrats on the move and on getting things together so quickly. Sorry that we not only were not there to help, but were also harboring some good helpers here in Silverdale. I am glad that things went smoothly nonetheless.
I have to agree that even the small day-to-day duties somehow have greater purpose, satisfaction and even a bit of joy when there is someone wonderful with whom you share the load. We are excited for you and Matthew...enjoy the rest of the unpacking process! See you soon!
Thanks Dana -- looking forward! :-)
Wendi,
I'm feeling very guilty that I wasn't there to help you guys. I feel a certain closeness to much of your stuff due to the times I have moved it!! I will be there next time if needed, but I like the whole idea of you and Matt kind of "settling in" together and bring a little stability to each of your lives both financially and personally. So don't move again for awhile, okay? You two go together like ham and eggs, salt and pepper, strawberries and ice cream, etc. We are all just so delighted you two have worked hard to make your marriage work and you have and will always have all of our support as you go down the road of life together.
Tks for the Father's Day thought.
Good luck on unpacking all of that stuff and throwing out what you don't need. We have the same issue but in our older age are finding it easier to let go of some of that stuff.
Love ya,
Mickey
Enjoy the new digs!!!
I have experienced a few moves, but the last two have been the best because my company paid someone else to do it. I don't know what your guys' big problem is....
Just kidding, we have been very lucky in that regard. As we are planning to buy a house in the next few months we will actually have to marshall enough support to enable our own move and I don't think that Doc Foster's very able back will be available that weekend in Washington. From the sounds of it, it will take at least three men to replace his work ethic....
Congrats on the new place and the refreshment that your marriage is enjoying. We love you guys and can't wait to see you soon!
